On the Origin of...PhD retreat

In 2007, the PhD students of three European graduate schools in Plant Sciences (Experimental Plant Sciences (EPS, The Netherlands), International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS, Germany) and Sciences du Végétal (SdV, France)) initiated a scientific collaboration network to improve exchange among European doctoral candidates in Plant Sciences. 
 
In 2008, this network organized its first European Plant Science Retreat (EPSR), in Wageningen, The Netherlands. The EPSR is a symposium organized “by and for doctoral candidates to facilitate interactions among doctoral candidates carrying out research in plant sciences in Europe as well as to give them an opportunity to meet experienced researchers and representatives of industry.  
 
Since then the EPSR has been organized by a different partner each year.
